Roger Robinson

Director

Roger is regarded as one of the uk’s leading creative and technical consultants for acrobatic and aerial performance with almost 30 years experience.

Roger was an active child and in his very early years he was facinated by screen legends like Donald O'conner, Russ Tamblyn and Gene Kelly and for a while wanted to follow in the footsteps of one of his idols, the World Greatest Daredevil Evel Knievel. From a small boy Roger knew he wanted to perform and through his early childhood swang, jumped and flipped off anything he could find (they call it Free Running these days) until in 1983 at the age of 17, and after a brief attempt at a “proper job” as a trainee surveyor, he ran off and joined the circus, and... never looked back.

Recruited by veteran acrobat and great vaudevillian Johnny Hutch MBE (who was credited with having performed at the London Palladium more than any other performer, starting in 1927), Roger spent 10 adventure packed years on the road touring the world with a 5 man troupe of acrobats working with some of the biggest names of the day in British variety at the time including Brucie, Tarbie, Cilla and everyone from Little and Large to Keith Harris and Orvil. The troupe travelled the world working in Theatre, Cabaret, Circus and featured on many International TV shows with highlights that included a season in The London Palladium Show with Pertula Clark at the Royal Alexander Theatre in Toronto Canada, "Stars in Der Manege" with Hollywood legend Tony Curtis, The Royal Variety Performance and 2 years touring the United States and Canada with a touring 3 rings circus that on occasions played to audiences in excess of 14,000.

In 1992 at the ripe age of 26 and after spending most of his performance career as performer/manager, Roger retired as a performer and with the help and advise from Johnny Hutch set up a specialist acrobatic agency that quickly became Acrobat Productions.

From the through the 90's Roger worked on countless TV Commercials, pop promos and TV shows & movies. In the early days devising acrobatic action items for TV show like LWT's “You Bet”, Roy Castle's “Record Breakers” and “How do they Do That” and has gone on to work with everyone from the Royal Opera House to MTV, from the Commonwealth Games to devising and choreographing the popular BBC Aerial Silks Ident.

Roger now acts as Acrobatic Consultant for large scale live events, film and tv in the uk and around the world, and is regarded as one of the UK's leading advisors on all matters Acrobatic and Aerial.
